Niki and I saw Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones (AOTC) last night, and I have a couple of comments I would like to share. If you aren’t afraid of spoilers, then read on.
I initially read a couple of reviews and spoilers about the movie before I saw it. The spoilers didn’t ruin the movie at all. Most of the reviews about AOTC were negative. I think that Roger Ebert gave the movie a C+. I look at this movie a little differently. This move has a big job on it’s hand, being the movie that really ties every other Star Wars movie together. It’s meant to be the glue to bind the whole series together. We see some of the dark side enter Anakin, we see the marriage of Anakin and Padm, and we see how Storm Troopers, Boba Fett, Uncle Owen, and Yoda all play into this. It’s very odd seeing the Storm Troopers as a clone army on the good side. But, thanks to JarJar, the senate gave control of democracy over to Chancellor Palpatine who I believe is the clone of Darth Sidious a.k.a the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. Hayden Christensen does a good job and at times has a very Christopher Walken -esque moment. I guess it’s the way he phrases his words. Yoda kicks ass, as well as my hometown’s own Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu. The visuals were great…excellent>
I give it a B. It’s not the best of stories, but I look at it like Back to the Future 2 a movie that truly sucked, but when viewed with 1 & 3, it improves as it is the binder of the six movies. Episode III comes out in 2005 and doesn’t start filming until next year. From some of the information I’ve found, Jimmy Smits has a larger role in the next movie , Hugh Jackman has a role and we really see the transformation of Anakin to Vader.
Sidenotes: The trailers before the movie were interesting. The new Matrix movies were previewed and also look great. Some of the scenes included, topped what was in the original. I look forward to viewing this too. Austin Powers 3:Goldmember looks like it will be as funny as the second movie. Look forward to seeing this next month.Oh…before I forget. You can see some of the uncredited actors occasionally. Roseanne’s Sara Gilbert makes a small apperance and I did see ET.
