Better Mousetraps : Bookmarks

September 23, 2002

I’m tired of having bookmarks on three or four computers in two different locations. I’ve thought about this for a while, until I finally put two and two together and was able to get something together fast. I tried “the Box ” and while It works. It’s not as good for me as I had hoped. So I setup a Movable Type blog that I’m putting my links in one at a time. I’m setting up categories and sorting some of the old junk out. I have a bookmarklet for it and it’s as easy as if it was built into the browser. I can access it from any ISP or internet connection and on any type of computer. If you want to take a look, my bookmarks are now online at weblog.mkelley.net/bookmarks/ .

It’s a basic css/xhtml template with no commenting or trackback capabilities….short, sweet, and to the point. The front page shows the 5 latest entries with the category links at the top of each page. I might add a breadcrumb script at the top, but then again maybe not.

This is all really a part of a couple of different ideas I’m forming about this weblog. No time to do them all now. Eventually I will have a link back to the bookmarks, in each daily entry, showing what I saved for the day. It might relate to the conversation or it might not. But we have a lot going on both at work and at home, so that will have to wait. There are better ways of doing things, but if you’re stuck working on two projects and more, they will have to wait while I pay the bills.

I will be out of town for the next few days, so since my laptop is still non-living there will be no updates or emails.
