I’m working on a local version of the Veterans History Project and have been learning a couple of things in the course of setting this program up. I had a brief class in archival interview techniques and today I went to a camera class where I get to try out the big beta cam. The whole project deals with interviewing Veterans from all of the wars. After we end this project, in 2006, all of the footage will go to the national archives.

We have our own studio across the hall from me, so it’s not like I have to go to a TV station for every interview I’m conducting. I’ll sit on the set with a Vet and ask questions and get responses on camera. I’m interviewer and cameraman on the sessions I’ll be filming. But I’m not the primary person, so I’ll probably have a dozen interviews over the years.

I really like this program, mainly because the wars of the 20th century were my favorites in history classes. I just like those stories much better than something I couldn’t relate to.
