Man speaks after 19-year silence

Seeing this story, it almost seems like a reverse of the plot in Douglas Coupland’s “Girlfriend in a Coma “. Child born shortly after the other parent goes into a coma. Decades later, the person wakes up and meets their teenage child, goes into therapy, gets reintroduced into a world that they couldn’t imagine.

In real life and in the book, the bodies were so weak and frail after the awakening, that extensive therapy was needed. Just to get someone to realize that the world is completely different….and you’ve been asleep for 19 years.

I wonder if the man in the CNN story still believes he is the age he was when his accident happened? In the Coupland story, the woman still had the mind of a 17 year-old, but had the body of a 34 year-old. Still had the same desires as a teenager but had to act like she was in an adult world.

Hopefully this isn’t a setup for the final few chapters of the book, the end of the world.
