The Mental Moral Hamster-wheel

August 14, 2003

Wow, it’s been a hell of a day. Sometimes you just get some heavy shit dropped on you and you don’t know what to make of it. E-Mail has the wonderful design to be sent to anyone in the world. You can send jokes, talk to friends or ask some anonymous person for help. Not to get into specifics, I received an email today, totally unsolicited, asking for help. It’s someone I’ve never met who just sent an email to a faceless email address, asking for a sliver of help from outside of their country.

We have a lot of information we can provide, but do we send the information to this person or offer advice? What if this person never uses this information? This is my little mental moral hamster-wheel spinning around. Of course we’re going to respond. We have a moral and work directive to help this person.
