Traditional Grip

March 16, 2008

One of the occasional hazards of being a drummer, is that sometimes you hit your very thin fingers on very heavy pieces of metal, be it cymbals or drum rims. It happened on more of a cold Fall Friday evening than I care to count, but I thought I was over this.

I banged my finger last week on a drum rim and it took a good (gross) chunk out of my finger. I tried to drum w/ it and had to change the grip on my left hand to traditional in order compensate for the pain and stiffness. I play traditional a lot but not when I have to play fills or play hard.

Now, we know the index finger is infected (ouch and still gross) and I’m trying to get everything feeling a bit better.
